Do you have rental Insurance?

Water damage can be extremely stressful to deal with, especially when the home is owned by you. So, what should you do if water damage occurs to the property you’re renting? Well, there are a few steps to take:

Have you checked your Crawlspace?

8/9/2023 (Permalink)

Hello homeowners!

Before working in this industry there were things that I would have never known to look for while owning a home. The biggest one for me was checking your crawlspace periodically. For most people it is out of site out of mind. Water damages occur more commonly than you think inside of your crawlspace. Broken pipes can happen over a long period of time or break suddenly causing major damages. You could have pooling water on your vapor barrier, wet insulation, and a belly bang full of water. If you happen to have wet insulation, the longer that it sits there like a wet sponge you could potentially be causing damages to the flooring of you home. It is important that you know where the access is for your crawlspace so that you can peak in there with a flashlight. If your water bill is higher than normal, that is a good indicator that you may also want to check in there.

So, if you do check in there and you do see water, the first step would be is to call a plumber so that they can stop the leak. Then you will want to call  SERVPRO of Clallam and Jefferson Co at 360-683-0773 so that we can come out and assess the damage and work on stopping any further damages from occurring in your home.

Prevent damages from natural rising water

Considering that we live in the rainshadow, and how full the rivers can get, are you ready for a possible flood? Do you have flood insurance coverage?

This year has really put into perspective how much rain, and water can affect people and their homes. The king tide that we had was devestaing to may homes around the olympic peninsula. Flooding can happen in a multitude of ways, high amounts of rain, overflow from the river, even a the city pipe lines can flood leading to nasty sewage coming up your drains. Here are some guidelines to help prevent these and other water related disasters from affecting your family.

Here in Clallam and Jefferson Co. we are at risk of flooding every year. Every home has a different level of risk associated with flood damage. Learn more about your home’s risk level. Find out what type of flood zone you live in, and the potential flood elevation in the area. FEMA offeres a great map service at https://msc.fema.gov/portal/

Another important part of preparedness is insuring against the loss. Its hard enough being uprooted as temporary as it may be, but to be placed with a financial burden at the same time is even harder. Consult your insurance agent and find out if flood insurance is part of your insurance plan as most times its an additional insurance writ.

Reduce your risk as best you can. Decide how you plan to react to the threat of a water emergency.

Lastly, make sure you know your home well. Find out if you have any low spots that may collect water first. Check your basement after every rainstorm to ensure no new leaks have occurred. Check your drywall for any wet spots along the ceiling, walls, or floors to make sure no water got in.

We can’t prevent every natural disaster, and we can’t prevent every water emergency, but using these and other helpful tips can help you be ready for any possible loss in the event.

Does Your Clallam and Jefferson County Home Have A Mold Problem?

2/18/2022 (Permalink)

If you see mold damage in your home call 360-683-0773 In Clallam and Jefferson County, mold can spread through a home in as little as 48 hours.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce health effects.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.
